ERRÁTICA

AMARANTA VELARDE

About the project:

In a hyper-stimulating world that takes away our attention, time and even our capacity to act, Errática asks to what extent our will is truly our own. What moves us? How does it move us? And what external forces shape our decisions and movements?

The project draws on instability, uncertainty and overstimulation to challenge conscious intention and give rise to erratic, uncontrollable movement. Between unconscious impulse and deliberate action, the piece explores the tension between a body moved by forces beyond its control and a body acting with full awareness.

Rather than seeking an answer, Errática proposes inhabiting the question and exploring, through bodily practice, what happens when our agency and sovereignty over our own will are put to the test.

About the creator:

Choreographer, dancer and pedagogue, Amaranta Velarde explores the friction between the artificial and representational and the organic and impulsive in her practice. She graduated from CODARTS in Rotterdam in 2004 and worked in the Netherlands with Bruno Listopad on various research projects and productions. In 2011 she moved to Barcelona, where she began developing her own body of work, including Lo Natural (2012), Hacia una estética de la buena voluntad (2013), Mix-en-Scene (2015), Apariciones sonoras (2019) and Desbordes (2022), presented at venues and festivals such as Grec Festival, Mercat de les Flors, MACBA, BAD Bilbao, Museo Reina Sofía and Théâtre des Brigittines in Brussels. Alongside her own work, she collaborates with artists including Cris Blanco, El Conde de Torrefiel, Atresbandes and Ola Maciejewska. She also teaches at the Conservatori Superior de Dansa de Barcelona.
